Media Release: 30 September 2013. For immediate use.
Otter: a new organisation that helps people with consumer choices that match their values.
It’s Up to Us! is Otter’s first Sydney event
It’s Up to Us is an event for people who want to make sure their shopping choices are good for the environment, promote fair trade and labour rights, and are better for animals.
According to Otter spokesperson, Gordon Renouf “our consumer choices make a difference, whether it’s on climate change, animal cruelty or the rights of workers in the fashion industry.”
“What we choose to buy affects whether or not businesses offer products that respect the environment, the interests of animals, and the rights of workers and farmers.”
At the event, attendees will meet and engage with other people who want to use their consumer choices to influence business and help change the world.
Four inspiring speakers from business, social enterprise, NGOs and government will challenge us to use our consumer choices wisely. They will identify what business, governments and NGOs are already doing and suggest practical actions for consumers that will really make a difference.
- Simon McRae, Ethical Clothing Australia
- Sam Mostyn, company director and sustainability advocate
- Melinda Dewsnap, City of Sydney Green Villages coordinator
- Julian Lee, from Food Connect, a social business.
Event details:Monday 4th November at the Mechanics School of Arts, 280 Pitt St, in central Sydney from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm.
